Preschool Adventure is the all-time favourite of my 2-year-old charge Andrew. It has 8 simple activities, some of which even 1-year-old children can easily master, as I discovered when I first downloaded it.
The activities, aimed at toddlers and pre-schoolers are:
Dot to Dot – Simple number recognition, 1 to 9, involving various animals.
Artist Colouring Book – Lets the child choose one of 6 different colours, then choose an area of the picture to colour in. Simply tap the area, no need to use “brush action.”
Typing the ABC Animals – Produces a keyboard for the child to choose a letter, which is read out followed by an animal relating to that letter, includes animal sounds.
Ocean Colours – Tap one of 7 coloured blotches, an ocean-related animated item or animal appears.
Space Shapes – 5 coloured shapes pop up out of moon craters as the child presses them.
Monkey Body – The child touches various body parts of a monkey, allowing them to be placed correctly. The monkey, when fully together, then makes the normal monkey noise, “Ooh ooh aah aah!”
Farm Sounds – A simple farm scene with various animals, including sounds, for the child to tap. It also has lightning and a happy sun with sunglasses.
Animal Matching – The child touches various animal body parts – head, middle, legs – and tries to match them up. When matched, the animal makes a noise. My personal favourite is the brown bear which, believe it or not, yodels!
When the app first came out, only 6 of these activities were available. However, it held a 1-year-old’s attention daily. I am still constantly asked for, “Animals on your phone!”
It’s an excellent app for distracting young children if you are sitting in the car, waiting for meals to be ready, or just for 10 minutes’ peace and quiet.
Since being updated earlier this year, adding in the colouring and typing activities, it has become even better.
A definite must-have app if you have young children!
