Calculator Boy

 ★★★★¾

My main problem with digital calculators & even iPhone & iPad calculators has always been the lack of a paper tape. I end up with a pencil & paper jotting down notes & figures. What good is that?

Calculator Boy for iPad fixes that for me by giving me a “paper” tape which I can edit, naming the items. I can even email the tape to myself or others.

Great utilities are ones that are easy to use that give you exactly what you need. Calculator Boy fits the bill and you can’t argue with free.

    Flipboard

     ★★★★☆

Flipboard is a a new and innovative way to read your favorite information. Flipboard allows you to follow your Facebook, Twitter, and other feeds in a magazine format that is like no other.  Why do I like Flipboard? Other than the fact that it’s free, it works seamlessly.  Every so often a programmer will write a program that works, and gets out of the way of the user, this is one of those programs.

On my Flipboard I started with some technology information such as wired and then added my Twitter feed.  After about 1 minute of searching, I found a feed that is everything bacon… really? A complete feed that talks about nothing but bacon?  So needless to say, I added it and have found the recipes and reviews quite useful.

Don’t take my word on it, download Flipboard for free and get to it!

    Other features:

    • Now with Instagram, a fun & beautiful way to share photos.
    • Search across your social networks and blogs with Social Search, the first of its kind.
    • Load new content up to twice as fast.
    • Discover featured sections curated by Flipboard.
    • Reload anytime from Table of Contents, improved Google Reader unread support, and much more.

Life Web Browser is available as a universal app for your iPhone and iPad, or as a iPhone-only version, which is always $.99. Life comes preloaded with a number of popular websites -- but the best feature is that it will automatically remember your favorite sites as you use it. A finger swipe to move back and forth (just like photos) makes it easy to navigate between websites. And I love the Queue feature which will load other links in the background while I am viewing.

    • Swipe through websites like they are photos

    • Queue anything news articles and Google searches

    • NEW in v1.5 -- Click the new Open Sites button to view, go to, rearrange, and remove open windows

    • NEW in v1.5 -- Pull to Refresh -- Pull the site down and Life will refresh the page.

    • Adjacent loading to anticipate your next move -- Life starts downloading the sites to your left and right so you rarely see a loading screen

    • Automatically remembers your favorite sites

    • 1, 2, and 3 finger gestures -- use 1 finger to scroll the site and swipe to your next window, 2 fingers to pinch/zoom, 3 fingers to go back/forward.

    • Visual Bookmarks

    • One address bar for URL and Google search

    • Google suggestions built into the address bar

    • One touch email link button that keeps you in the Life Web Browser

    • Full screen web browsing experience. For iPad -- additional Sliced view to see if the windows next you are full loaded.

    • Tutorial -- Our innovative tutorial points to all the features right when you open Life for the first time and of course, there’s a tutorial video so you can see Life in action. To get to the tutorial later, simply open your bookmarks and click the Tutorial site.
